Yvonne Short

Ceramics

Yvonne Short’s journey with ceramics began in the 1990s under the guidance of renowned Gippsland potter Malcolm Boyd. Through hand-building techniques, particularly coiling, she developed a love of creating organic forms, with carving becoming a defining feature of her work. Richly textured surfaces and expressive mark-making have become hallmarks of her distinctive style, with her pottery featured in local exhibitions and regional markets.

After a hiatus from the studio, Yvonne returned to clay with renewed enthusiasm and curiosity. While exploring a variety of making techniques, she was naturally drawn back to the meditative process of coil building and the expressive possibilities of carving, often incorporating sgraffito to create layered textures and intricate surface decoration.

Continuing to learn through the mentorship of Malcolm Boyd and accomplished Gippsland potter Cindy Tong, Yvonne’s practice is constantly evolving. Through experimentation with mark-making, glazing and surface treatments, she creates unique, handcrafted ceramic vessels that celebrate texture, craftsmanship and the enduring beauty of handmade pottery.
