Vicki Philipson inherited a great love of plants from both her botanist parents and has always enjoyed a keen interest in the visual arts. After a 30 year career playing Associate Principal Oboe with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra she now devotes her time to Botanic Art.
In 2016, at ‘The Art of Botanical Illustration’ exhibition, Vicki was awarded an Honourable Mention by Celia Rosser for three paintings: ‘Akane apple’s, ‘Black Genoa figs’ and ‘Blackberry leaf’. She received another Honourable Mention in 2018 for ‘Red poppy’. This painting was chosen to advertise the exhibition on flyers, banners and billboards. The hero image featured for TABI 2020 exhibition was Vick’s painting ‘Agapanthus seed head’.
Vicki has a close association with the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, where she began botanic painting classes with Dianne Emery in 2010. Vicki’s ‘Summer sampler’ painting was selected for the 2017 calendar and ‘Akane apples’ featured on the 2018 calendar cover.
December 2019 marked Vicki’s first solo exhibition. A very successful show held at the Meeniyan Art Gallery. Vicki Philipson passionately pursues excellence in her botanical paintings. Inspiration is found beyond her studio window in the extensive garden at her home in South Gippsland, Victoria.
