Margaret Koopmans

Paintings

Margaret Koopmans paintings are inspired by the natural world, particularly plants and birds. Her latest works explore larger-than-life florals and native birds, inviting the viewer to appreciate the subject matter in a more intimate experience.  Margaret delights in using a colourful palette and capturing scenes from daily life; still-life has become her passion as it reflects her love of home and family.

All sources of material used for Margaret’s paintings are from her daily wanderings and excursions; she uses her own photographs as references ensuring each work is unique.  Margaret Koopmans also enjoys capturing landscapes and seascapes; her ‘en plein air’ (outdoor, on-the-spot works) are largely for her own pleasure and to record scenes when she travels.  She concentrates on capturing the atmosphere, colours and light of the location, working quickly to avoid getting bogged down in detail. These sketches are occasionally used as an aide memoire to render a studio piece.
