Born in Kyabram, Victoria in 1948, Marg Castle grew up in country South Australia before returning to Victoria in the 1970s. Marg and her family settled at Nilma in Gippsland, enjoying rural life on their farm, the extensive garden a constant joy and inspiration for Marg. After a successful career teaching art for 30 years in private schools around Melbourne, Marg began pursuing her own art career in the 1990s. She moved to the beautiful Macedon Ranges where she spent 15 wonderful years creating and maintaining a 25 acre garden and teaching a talented group of botanical artists.
The landscape, gardens and plants around Gippsland and Victoria’s central highlands have deeply influenced Marg’s paintings, printmaking and sculptures.
“My art has been built around a lifelong love affair with the landscape and nature. My artistic journey has taken me through many medium, and subject matters have slowly evolved within me. Currently I am obsessed with birds nests! They have such complex designs. Birds are master builders, architects, and outstanding recyclers!”
Recently Marg moved back to Melbourne, where she continues to explore various artistic mediums, in particular watercolour and sculpture, running botanical art workshops and teaching mature students from her home studio.
Marg’s artworks are widely collected in Australia, UK, USA Japan, Canada and New Zealand. She has had several solo exhibitions and exhibited widely in joint exhibitions.
